George Washington Carver:A Man Who Trusted God For Everything

George Washington Carver was born into slavery on the Carver plantation in 1861.  When all slaves were freed, George was adopted into the Carver family. George was a smart and curious boy.  He knew a lot about plants.  He was known as "the plant doctor" even as a boy.  As he got older, he shared his knowledge of plants with poor black farmers to help them.  He set a good example for others and he can set a good example for you too.
George traveled many places to go to schools that would take black children.  The Bible was important to George. He read it every day.  He was also a very good artist.  It was hard to find a school to go to  because of your skin color.  When George was traveling, he worked many jobs to support himself.  Racism was a big problem for George.
When George finished college, he had two degrees--one in agriculture, and one in bacterial botany.  But instead of taking a high paying job he took a job teaching poor, black farmers the best way to grow food.  He had a good knowledge of science and how to make crops grow.  When he was helping the people by freely sharing his knowledge, he was making a big difference in their lives.  Without George's help, they could have starved and had no money.  He taught them how to be successful farmers.
George lived his life for others.  He never even married!  In all his decisions George did what God led him to do.  He obeyed God by using his knowledge to help others live better lives instead of just having a good life for himself.

(CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK)
This week serve somebody with the gifts God has given you .  When you prefer someone over yourself, you make a big difference in both of your lives.
