Harriet Tubman: All Aboard to Freedom

Harriet Tubman was born on a slave plantation in Maryland, 1820.  She had a mean master but at least her family got to stay together.  At the age of thirteen, she helped a slave escape.  She knew even then that it was the right thing to help him even though it meant she could get punished.  She later married a free Negro, but even he didn't want her to have her freedom.  She decided one day to run north from the plantation in 1849. Once she was free, instead of making herself at home, she decided to help other people who were suffering.  Back and forth she went from north to south on the Underground Railroad, bringing hundreds of other slaves to freedom.
When the civil war was over, she stayed in New York and started a shelter for the homeless, sick, and needy.  She died there at the age of ninety three in 1913.  She always trusted that God would keep her safe, and now she is being rewarded with a home in heaven.

                    (CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK)
There are lots of ways that people can be slaves.  You can be controlled by addictions, wrong thinking, vanity, pride, or wanting people to like you.  This week pray for  people in your life who are slaves to any of these things or maybe something else.  Also pray that God will free you too!  If you don't know what you're a slave to, ask God to show it to you.  He will!
